Hey Mumbaikars…

We & our Mumbai will get a new life this June!! The Mumbai MonoRail..!!
The Mumbai Local has always been referred as the life of Mumbai. But now, very soon our Mumbai Local will be getting married to the sizzling beauty The Mumbai MonoRail. Hahahaha!! :-)

Earlier last year, I’ve written a lot about The Mumbai Local describing its operations, usage & it’s LIFE. In case you missed it, you can read the same following the link below.

Let’s know the features of The Mumbai Local’s wud be – The Mumbai MonoRail. ;) MonoRail transport system will be the first of its kind in India. It is owned by MMRDA – Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. As of now, 18 monorail railway stations are under construction & MMRDA has planned to cover 170 stations across the city and nearby Mumbai. Larsen & Toubro (LnT) won the contract of operating the Monorail Network.

LnT along with Scomi Rail, a Malaysian company, will be operating the monorail network till the year 2029. The contract money has been fixed at US$541 Millions. The Monorail successfully completed its 1st trail on 18th feb, 2012 between Chembur - Wadala & Jocab Circle.

MMRDA will soon conduct the Standards Certification process which will certify the network operations after ascertaining the safety levels & the quality of the services offered. Monorail will be available for the use of Mumbaikars only after these certifications. The Chembur –Wadala – Jacob Circle route is expected to be certified by June 2012.

This route will cover Wadala, GTB Nagar, Antop Hill, Acharya Arte Circle, Wadala Bridge, Dadar (east), Naigoan, Ambedkar Nagar, Mint Colony, Lower Parel, Chinchpokli, Jacob Circle.

By the decade end, MMRDA desires to cover Mulund – Borivali line, Virar line, Lokhandwala – Kanjurmarg line, Thane – Dahisar line, Kalyan – Dombivli line, Chembur – Ghatkopar - Kopar Khairane line & Mahape – Kalyan line.

The travel fair will vary from Rs.8/- to Rs.20/-. The Monorail will have the top speed of 80kmph & the capacity will be 500 commuters in 4-coach cars & 750 commuters in 6-coach cars. The cost of the whole project will be around Rs.20300 Crores.

MMRDA expects the daily commutership of about 125000 people. 15 Monorail trains are being manufactured as of now which will cover 135 kms.

That’s all what I could tell you about the Mumbai Monorail as of now. Expect more write-ups from me on this topic very soon. So get ready for the Band Baaja Baraat this June! Mumbai Local aur Mumbai MonoRail ki shaadi me aap sabhi ko aana padega. Hehehehehe!
